Brand Governance & Training

Building a scalable system for brand adoption across a growing university

As Texas State continued to grow, maintaining a consistent and cohesive brand across a large, decentralized campus became increasingly complex.

With hundreds of colleges, departments, and initiatives producing their own communications, we needed a system that could provide clarity and consistency—without slowing teams down or limiting their ability to communicate effectively.

I led the development of a brand governance framework designed to balance structure with flexibility. At the center of this work was a fully rebuilt brand guidelines website—a dynamic, self-service hub that provides campus partners with clear standards, downloadable assets, and practical guidance for applying the brand.

To support adoption at scale, we paired this with self-service templates through Canva for Campus, centralized asset distribution through Canto, and storefronts for promotional products and university stationery—making it easier for departments to access approved, brand-compliant materials.

Equally important was establishing ongoing support and communication. We implemented regular brand update emails to share guidance and best practices, and created a brand review process that allows campus partners to submit work and receive feedback—positioning the brand as a collaborative resource rather than a gatekeeping function.

The result is a more aligned, efficient, and scalable approach to brand management that supports the university’s continued growth.
